Since 1934, Heschung has been crafting shoes designed to last in Steinbourg, Alsace. Over the generations, the house has preserved the techniques, materials, and construction methods that define its identity, including the Norwegian welt—a legacy of its origins in mountain and ski footwear that has become one of its hallmarks. It is this heritage that the Ginkgo boot celebrates today as it turns 40.

In 1986, Pierre Heschung adapted the Norwegian welt for a new generation of urban footwear. The Ginkgo quickly found its place in the house's collections. Recognizable by its dual-material construction, generous proportions, and unique silhouette, it has spanned the decades without losing its identity. Its name is a nod to the Ginkgo tree, a symbol of longevity and resilience.

To mark this anniversary, the house has created three exclusive editions for men and women, each limited to just 40 pairs. The Citadine version, offered exclusively for men, presents a more refined take, with Box calf leather and a leather sole that streamlines the silhouette for a dressier look (795 euros). The Outdoor version reconnects with the brand's mountain roots, combining waterproof Aquabuck leather with ball-bearing eyelets and the house's patented Ravel sole (750 euros for men, 725 euros for women). Finally, the Signature version highlights Heschung's DNA, featuring natural Suportlo leather from a local tannery, the Norwegian welt, and the Ravel sole (795 euros for men, 765 euros for women).

All three versions will be available starting in October 2026.
