Côte&Ciel continues its exploration of materials with its new Reflective Taupe capsule, which examines the relationship between light and the marks created by everyday use. At the heart of the collection is a specially treated nylon, developed to create a tactile, rugged crinkle on its surface. Far from remaining static, the material continues to evolve as it is worn: new creases, folds, and textures emerge over time, allowing each piece to develop a surface shaped by movement and the wearer.
In bright light, the fabric reveals another dimension. Its dark, textured surface becomes reflective, catching and bouncing back points of light before blending back into the darkness as conditions change. Inspired by the night sky, this shifting quality questions how an object can oscillate between visibility and discretion, appearing differently depending on where and how it is viewed.
The material is applied to three of the brand's silhouettes: the iconic NILE S, theORNE and theISARAU XS. Each offers a different expression, from the sculptural volume of the NILE S to the more compact forms of the other two models.
To present the capsule, côte&ciel partnered with the Quiet Hiking Club for a night hike through Paris, bringing the collection back to the environment that inspired it. Throughout the walk, the group stopped to observe and charcoal-sketch the textures of nature, translating surfaces, shadows, and irregular shapes onto paper. The editorial accompanying the launch, photographed by Kaj Lehner, documents this hike where the bags move from shadow to light, their reflective surfaces appearing and disappearing into the landscape.
The Reflective Taupe is available online and in-store.
